Floral designers from Boulder Blooms say accent flowers in gray, such as Brasilia Berries and Eucalyptus Pods, will host white and soft green florals. Structural designs incorporating interesting materials allow for a juxtaposition of curve and movement in the flowers.

The popularity of gray remaining on the bridal scene this season means succulents will continue to be popular in floral designs. Their gray-green hue and interesting texture contrasts with soft flowers.

For the more traditional bride, vintage styles remain. Roses, chrysanthemums and peonies grace these classic bouquets. Pinks and coral remain popular colors for these timeless blossoms.

By Heather Shoning

Planning your wedding—one of the most momentous occasions of your lifetime—is a joyous time during which you spend countless hours poring over bridal magazines, tromping from one dress store to the next with your best girlfriends in tow and toiling away over your guest list. Don’t let the details get you down.

Our best advice for you: Breathe. Then hire a professional wedding planner. You should enjoy the process of designing your special day. And he or she can help you plan an event that is stylish, trendy and a true reflection of you and your loved one.

Save the Date Events, Trends

UPSCALE RANCH
In the next year, we will continue to see the brides wanting rustic ranch weddings in Colorado. The ranch-style venues book up much quicker than traditional wedding venues, so book early.

SURPRISING SETTINGS
Brides are looking for unusual wedding venues more than ever! We have brides looking to hold their receptions on a bridge, in a national forest and in tents in the middle of the city. Thinking outside the box is key for 2013 weddings.

FOOD FANTASY
We are going to see more interactive food stations and dinner options such as moving stations, multi-course tapas dinners and food/wine pairing courses.

STYLIZING
Mixing unexpected colors and patterns is going to be on-trend during the next few years of wedding style. Color blocking is going to take hold in Colorado and inspire many wedding designs. We also expect brides to mix different materials such as glass, acrylic, wood and metal in their designs.

Save the Date Events, Tips

BEGIN WITH THE BUDGET
Figure out a rough budget range for your wedding before starting the planning process. Nothing is worse than choosing an expensive venue then not having enough money in the budget to cover the rest of the vendors and details you want.

APP HAPPY
Use Pinterest! This is the easiest way to save all your ideas and inspiration photos to one place. You can easily share the link to your Pinterest board with your wedding planner and vendors so they know the style of your wedding and what you like.

DI-DON’T
Don’t take on too many do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. It’s often not worth your time and stress to create a lot of wedding details. With websites like etsy.com, you can still get the look of a DIY wedding without the stress of doing it all yourself.

Crested Butte Weddings, Trends

CREATIVE COUTURE
The wedding gown trend for 2013 is color. Gowns in all styles will be found in colors ranging from pastel pink to oxblood red. Go bold for your big day. Pastel tea-length dresses with sweetheart necklines and ruffles are perfect for a garden event.

HEAVENLY HAIRSTYLES
Hairstyles will be soft and romantic. Throughout 2013, we’ll see headbands made with pearls and beads instead of a veil.

RETRO THEMES
Vintage themes will still be popular in 2013. Think Great Gatsby, Roaring Twenties and grand ballroom themes. Dress styles and decorations will coordinate with the time period.

STEEPED IN TRADITION
Family traditions are being incorporated into wedding themes. Favorite family recipes are making their way into reception dinners or a special dessert. Be sure to have the recipe printed on special cards for your guests to take home.

Crested Butte Weddings, Tips

TIMING IS EVERYTHING
For a destination wedding, make sure the date you choose is right for the area. For mountain town resorts you want to avoid the end of April and month of May. This is their muddy season. Most resorts shut down and the terrain isn’t very pretty until mid-June. Also avoid late October to mid-November.

DESTINATION DONE RIGHT
Send out your save-the-dates right after your engagement—especially for a destination wedding. Your invitations should go out no later than two months before the event, and have the replies in at least three weeks before the wedding. You will have some last minute replies, but this will give you time to have the seating arrangement and escort cards printed.

SEATING RE-ARRANGEMENT
Have the bride’s family and friends sit on the right side (facing the altar) and groom’s family on the left side. This way parents can see the faces of their son and daughter instead of the back of his or her head.

INTIMATE GATHERINGS
Keep your wedding small so you can talk to everyone during the reception for a meaningful, intimate event. About 75 guests is a perfect number. And it opens up more choices for venues. You can always have a big party later for those who were unable to attend.

MANAGE THE GUEST LIST
Start your guest list with the most important people in your lives. Begin with immediate family, then extended family and your closest friends. Save business associates for last.

GET YOUR GUY INVOLVED
Make your fiancé feel that he is involved in the planning. Be sure to get his opinion on plans—especially the food—and ask him what tasks he would like to be in charge of or duties he’d like to perform. It’s his special day, too.

We Tie The Knots, Trends

COUPLE CUSTOMS
One trend is for the wedding planner to interpret the personal style of the individual couple. How that plays out is as unique as the bride and groom themselves.

CREATIVE COLORS
New color palettes are coming into play for spring and summer 2013. Plan to see preppy, nautical themes with yellow and navy—even stripes. In Denver, plan to see modern, sophisticated color palettes.

We Tie The Knots, Tips

UP YOUR PHOTO BUDGET
Hire a good photographer. You’ve put so much money and energy into this day, and all you’ll have left are the photographs to help you remember what you worked so hard to accomplish.

REMEMBER: IT’S NOT JUST A DAY , IT’S A LIFETIME
Don’t get overwhelmed. Focus on you and your fiancé and the commitment you’re about to make. Enjoy this time together. “I always tell my brides, ‘let me plan your wedding so you can plan for your marriage.’”

Other Trends from DL weddings

FOOD
Food Trucks: Think tacos or cupcakes
Bite-Sized Bounty: A variety of appetizer-sized foods

PERSONALIZE
Mint: Decorations and dresses in this gauzy green hue
Rainbow: Don’t limit yourself to one color; the sky’s the limit
Creative Backdrops: Dress up the background behind the cake table or make a place for photo ops

PLAN
Out with DIY, in with sophisticated details: Custom decorations with a couple’s logo or initials abound Lounge-style receptions—Sofas, coffee tables and chandeliers create a new ambiance for receptions

FASHION
Portrait Backs: Show off your back(side) with a lacey peek-a-boo-back dress
Peplums: This fashion is everywhere and wedding gowns are no exception
Return of the lace dress: Lace is back in a big way with both vintage and modern lace styles

Colorado is home to hundreds of unique companies that make for awesome swag in hospitality bags for out-oftown guests. Feature the Centennial State in your Colorado wedding and let them snack, drink up and enjoy. P.S. Some of these items also make great gifts for wedding guests. Imagine a small basket of fresh Palisade peaches with a thank-you note from the couple. Sure, they will be eaten instantly, but the memory will last forever.

SNACK TIME
Justin’s Nut Butter:
Although the Boulder-based company also makes candy, stick with the nut butter packs for guests. These packs come in two-tablespoon size portions. These provide instant energy with an awesome taste— favorite flavors include chocolate almond and classic peanut. justinsnutbutter.com

Boulder Canyon Chips:
Sure, they’re a calorie splurge but well worth it. With over ten flavors, including light and natural options, these chips satisfy any snack attack. bouldercanyonfoods.com

Telluride Truffle:
Sweeten the deal with the goodness of iconic Telluride. From truffle sauce to The Fourteener (a collection of 14 different truffles), these gourmet goodies surely bode well both in a gift bag or as a treat for departing wedding guests. telluridetruffle.com

Froodles Fruit Snack:
The Durango-based company states that eating an entire three-ounce bag of Froodles is like eating half a pound of fruit. With a multitude of flavors in cool strip form, guests will appreciate the introduction to this High Desert snack. froodles.com

St. Claire’s Organics:
With breath mints, sweet candy, sour tarts and dozens of other products, St. Claire’s has got the hard candy for you. Choose from oodles of tins of St. Claire’s for either a gift bag or a treat for guests as they leave. The packaging of the tins is classy and the flavor distinct. stclaires.com

Palisade Peaches:
If you happen to host a wedding during peach season (late summer or early fall dependent upon weather conditions) then a small basket of two to three fresh peaches complements any hotel room, name card table or signing table. They don’t come any sweeter than Colorado’s Western Slope. highcountryorchards.com

DRINK UP

Celestial Seasonings:
This national tea brand is located on the Front Range. If their tea bags aren’t already in the hotel room, stick a couple of your favorite flavors in guests’ hospitality bags—decafs, greens, wellness and so many more. celestialseasonings.com

Acli-Mate Natural Sports Drink:
Help your guests get acclimated to the mile-high-and-above altitudes of Colorado. This beverage helps alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness and will allow your wedding guests to dance at peak energy levels with good hydration. The powered packets come in three flavors and can be easily purchased in bulk. acli-mate.com

Solar Roast Coffee:
This solar-based Pueblo coffee company has been doing a lot of things right for some time. Set the tone for ecological responsibility and create a custom coffee grind for your wedding with matching labels. solarroast.com

ENJOY

Pangea Organics:
It’s inevitable. When you come to Colorado, you experience dry skin. Even with small samples of lotion in the hotel room, there is nothing like Pangea Organics’ lotion to really help with moisture. All of their products contain the highest quality antioxidant nutrients and are processed in an eco-friendly manner, of course! pangeaorganics.com

Carolla’s Beeswax Skin Crème:
Use this creme as a simple yet purposeful lip balm that everyone will appreciate when dehydration strikes. Carolla’s only two ingredients include olive oil and beeswax with no perfumes, flavors or paraffin! carollas.com

Contact these companies directly to get a discount of bulk orders for your wedding.

When it comes to bachelor and bachelorette parties, there are a variety of tried-and-true methods–a bar crawl, a spa day–so why not try something a little different? Consider the following alternatives for a truly memorable bash.

Instead of a trip to Las Vegas, switch it up and take your closest friends to New Orleans. Between the jazz bars, world-renowned food and famously never-ending festivities, the party is sure to go home happy (and full).

Bachelors and bachelorettes alike can approve of the Denver Patio Ride, which will take you and 15 of your closest friends on a tour through LoDo to enjoy a night of music and drink specials. While the party pedals, a guide safely directs the ride to the next location.

Looking for something local and exciting? Sign the party up for a Mixology lesson at Stir Cooking School or a private burlesque class at Tease Studio. Garner excitement for the big day by throwing an upscale brunch for close family and friends. Throw on a show-stopping sequin dress, surround your guests with elegant displays of seasonal flowers and let a professional photographer snag the intimate moments with loved ones at the fabulous fête.

Finally, take advantage of Colorado’s beauty by hosting a bike-and-hike retreat in a mountain lodge. Put the “treat” in “treatments,” and head inside after a long day outdoors to pamper the group with an indulgent spa experience, including massages, facials, pedicures and maybe some sweet summer brews.

Colorado has always been a much sought-after destination for weddings. Many venues with opulent accommodations and iconic views dot the state. Hop off the beaten path to one of these luxury settings for your wedding. Peruse these ideas and venues for creative Colorado nuptials.

DUDE RANCHES
Dude ranches provide the perfect backdrop for summertime weddings. With scenic views of majestic mountains and trees, you can have yourself one spectacular summer wedding. Dude ranches have so many family-friendly activities to offer in the summer, including river rafting, fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking, nature walks, hay rides, country dancing, cookouts, spa treatments and more. And, yes, s’mores are readily available for an evening treat!

The best time to book a summer dude ranch wedding is Memorial Day through Labor Day to ensure moderate temperatures. And it’s likely you’ll still see some snow-capped peaks for a beautiful photo backdrop. Latigo Ranch outside of Kremmling has hosted a number of summer weddings throughout the years. With multiple cabins for guests, a threefloor social hall, wandering llamas and some of the best darn home-cooked food the high country has to offer, Latigo is certainly off the beaten path and one heck of a destination.

Smith Fork Ranch in Crawford also makes for a stellar summer wedding. “It’s an intimate destination wedding—close family and friends of the bride and groom can stay in cozy cabins on our historic ranch. We have luxurious authentic western accommodations for up to 28 people, and, guests can enjoy full use of ranch amenities, the lodge, dining areas and grounds for summer fun,” says Margot Harter, reservations and ranch experience manager.

The Broadmoor One of the most iconic places in Colorado to get married in Colorado, The Broadmoor hosts 75-100 weddings a year. However, few people realize that their incredible holiday light display is up through March, making a picture-perfect backdrop for any nuptial. Book in January or February and take advantage of the lighter guest traffic. “We can do some great custom cooking classes—we have a great grilling/cooking class demo with dinner—wine pairing dinners with our sommeliers, yoga classes, golf, spa, tennis, fly fishing and art classes; the list goes on for pages,” says Lindsey Wildman Suggs, catering manager of The Broadmoor.

MOUNTAIN MAGIC
Posh resorts at the base of the mountain or boutique hotels in Aspen book quickly. Investigate a date in April, May or June–Colorado’s shoulder season–for a wider variety of options. Don’t forget to book special treats for your wedding weekend such as organic cooking classes, group yoga, guided hiking tours, town history tours and jewelry- or potterymaking classes.

At the base of Colorado’s famous ski slopes are the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, Vail Cascade Resort & Spa, Sheraton Steamboat Springs, The Peaks Resort & Spa in Telluride, St. Regis Aspen and WestWall Lodge in Crested Butte. In resort towns, brides and grooms will find plenty of options for hair and makeup, gathering spaces, caterers, florists and other high-demand services. Plus, the backdrop of a ski resort at your wedding, even during the summer, is breathtaking. Book during the right time and guests can access the mountain via chairlifts and gondolas for a special treat. You can even get married at the top of most of these resorts’ mountains.

Ponder these ideas for inspiration: “Steamboat Springs is an amazing slope-side mountain destination. Wedding parties can even visit Strawberry Park Hot Springs or golf at Rollingstone Ranch, which is also owned by the Steamboat Sheraton,” explains Kristal Eckley, director of sales at the Sheraton Steamboat.

“Why not marry in the spring and choose from a plethora of free activities to entertain your guests, such as the Spring Back to Vail, Taste of Vail and Vail Music Festivals,” states Kristen Texler, public relations & communications manager of Vail Cascade Resort and Spa. “Take advantage of the longer days in spring and get married on our heated deck. Treat your guests to a crisp night of stargazing without any noise or light pollution! You can even host your intimate gathering around our huge fireplace with two-story picturesque windows as the backdrop.”

ORIGINAL, MEMORABLE AND NATURE-INSPIRED
Have you always had a passion for relaxing and soaking in a hot tub? Take it to the next level and book your big day at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort in Nathrop. They do more than 60 weddings a year! With a new spa, dozens of hot spring pools, luxury cabins and lodge rooms, guests will have endless fun pool-hopping and soaking in the incredible views of Mount Princeton.
